Spring into the New Season with a Fresh Smile!
March 15, 2023
After the cold and darkness of winter, spring is a welcomed season! It’s a time when everything comes to life again, from blooming flowers to refreshing your home. Your smile can also be included in the restart. In addition to caring for your oral health through your regular dental hygiene of brushing and flossing, there are a few simple things you can do to give extra care to your grin. Here are four easy ways to help your teeth and gums “spring into spring”!
#1. Out with the Old Toothbrush, In with the New One!
What does your toothbrush look like right now? If the bristles are all splayed in different directions, it’s definitely time to throw it out and get a new one! Or, perhaps, you can’t remember the last time you replaced your current toothbrush. According to the American Dental Association, you should switch out toothbrushes every three to four months. Once the bristles become worn, they are not as effective at removing food particles and plaque. However, as you search for your replacement, opt for ones with soft bristles. This will protect your enamel from being damaged and your gums from receding.
#2. Show Love to Your Toothbrush Container
When it’s time to clean the bathroom, oftentimes the counter, tubs, and toilet are the main focuses. However, your toothbrush container is also accumulating germs and bacteria as well! You want to be sure to keep it clean, so your toothbrush isn’t spreading these harmful things to your mouth. You can either wipe it down with disinfectant or wash it in hot, soapy water. Or, for easy and quick cleaning, you can throw it in the dishwasher. A sanitized toothbrush container means a happier, healthier smile for you!
#3. Spring-Clean Your Dental Products
One of the things that people do to push the restart button on their home at the beginning of spring is to go through their fridge and pantry to get rid of any containers and cans that have passed their expiration date. However, did you know that dental products also have a time limit for use? Your toothpaste and mouthwash have a shelf life, and once it’s passed, they are not as effective at keeping your pearly whites clean and luminous. Take the time to check the expiration dates on your oral hygiene products and chuck out the old ones. You can always replace them with new dental products you have been wanting to try!
#4. Hop on Over to Your Dentist
When was the last time you went for your biannual checkup? If it’s been a while, there’s no better time than now. Your dentist can not only give your teeth a deep clean and polish but check for any oral health problems and treat them before they become more serious. A refreshed smile is a perfect way to hop into springtime!
