Creative Contact-Free Ways to Greet Your Dental Team
July 27, 2020
As much as your dental team loves greeting you with a handshake or a hug, these friendly ways of saying hello are temporarily off limits. With all of the new precautionary measures being taken, maintaining social distancing as much as possible is a must! But this doesn’t mean that you cannot greet the staff in other ways with little to no contact. Continue reading to learn about some fun creative greetings from your dentist in Pleasant Grove.
Which Greetings Should I Avoid for the Time Being?
These greetings involve too much contact which increases the likelihood of contagion. The following shouldn’t be used until a later date.
- Hugs: Almost everyone enjoys being hugged by the people they care about. Due to the close nature, you can easily spread illnesses to others, so they are best avoided for now.
- Handshakes: These are great for greeting someone professionally, but it is a fast and easy way to spread germs, especially because you probably spend more time than you’d like to admit touching your face.
- Fist bumps / high-fives: Even though these don’t spread as many germs as a handshake does, it still involves direct contact between hands and should be steered away from at the moment.
- La bise (cheek kissing): This is a popular greeting in several countries, like France. Because it involves touching your face to someone else’s, it’s being discouraged.
Which Greetings Should I Be Using Instead?
The possibilities are endless when it comes to greeting others. Here are just a few that you can try that involve little to no contact.
- Foot bump: This has been popularized by videos on social media from all around the world. It involves tapping feet with someone else and doesn’t require skin to skin contact when both people are wearing shoes.
- Elbow bump: Since the start of the pandemic, the elbow bump has become very common. This is when two people bend their right arms and touch elbows. Even though this is not completely contact-free, it is much safer than a handshake because most people cannot touch their elbow to their face.
- Namaste: This is a traditional Hindu greeting that is popular across southeast Asia. In Thailand it is known as the “wai.” In order to perform this greeting, one must place their palms together with their fingertips pointed towards the sky and their thumbs at their chest. It is spoken with a slight bow of the head.
- Make up your own: If you don’t like any of these, you could be creative and make up your own. Jazz hands, air high-fives, curtsies, bows, and peace signs are all great options that you could put a twist on.
Using no contact greetings is just one of many ways that you can do your part in lowering the curve of COVID-19 cases. Your dental team is looking forward to using some with you when you arrive for your next appointment.
